What is Diastema?

Undesirable gaps between teeth are called ‘diastema’. A split tooth may be an innate problem, or it may appear later.

Why Does a Diastema Arise?

  • If your jawbone is larger than your teeth and your teeth are smaller than your jawbone.
  • thumbsucking habit
  • Gum disease or gum infection
  • Lack of treatment of gaps caused by previous tooth extraction.
  • Anatomical positioning of the frenulum between the two central teeth.

More than one method can be tried in the treatment of diastema. You can examine them from the following treatment steps below.

Direct Bonding ( Dental bonding)

Bonding is one of the easiest procedures to improve the appearance of their smile.  Unless many teeth are involved, this is a procedure that can usually be done. One visit usually lasts 30-60 minutes. How does dental bonding Work?

  • Your dentist will first choose a resin colour that closely matches your current tooth colour.
  • They will make the area of the tooth rougher and apply a conditioning liquid. These will help the bonding resin stick better.
  • The dentist will apply the resin to the tooth.
  • Sculpt it to the right shape, and then use a UV light or laser to harden the material.
  • Once it hardens, they will touch it up and polish it so it matches the rest of your teeth.

Laminate veneer: Laminate veneer is a treatment method that is generally used to eliminate uneven, missing, broken and discoloured teeth. Therefore, it is a suitable and aesthetic technique that can be used for diastema. How does the process work?
